Why is Vegetarianism good?

In the world we live in today, people have developed different eating habits. Some people did it for the sake of taste, some believed one kind to be more nutritious and some just followed the trend.

Based on the eating habits humans can be very broadly classified into two categories namely Vegetarians and Non-Vegetarians.

Let us clear some air of myths and see how vegetarianism can be beneficial as we move ahead.

Who are Vegetarians?

The term vegetarian refers to the category of humans that consume only plant and milk products in their meals such as vegetables, fruits, certain seeds, nuts, milk, curd, and the list goes on.

Where do the vegetarians lie in the food chain?

Based on the eating habits it is not very difficult to analyze and conclude that vegetarians lie one level low/below the non-vegetarians and above the level containing the plants.

Vegetarians usually share the level with herbivorous animals in the food chain.

“Is it really good to lie low in the food chain ?”

Many must be wondering “Is it true that being low in any kind of chain will help us ?”, and the answer for that is “YES!!!!!”.

Because as you ascend towards the top in the food chain, there are high chances of you carrying the pathogens, chemicals, and other undesirable components that may be residing the bodies of organisms over which you survive, that too in a high concentration when compared to those organisms that lie below you in the same chain.

Advantages of being vegetarian

  • Reduced Obesity

The vegetarian meals comparatively contain less fat composition than non-vegetarian meals.

  • Prevents many life-threatening diseases :

Obesity is the direct causing factor of many life-threatening diseases like cancer, heart strokes, etc. and these can be avoided up to a great extent with vegetarian meals.

  • Reduced risk of high blood pressure :

Non-Vegetarian food items like fish, seafood, and due to the high concentration of salt and spices that go along with them make the non-vegetarian meals carry a high concentration of sodium. Which can increase one’s blood pressure by multiple folds if taken in routine, again creating a risk of cardiac disease?

  • Reduced risk of type 2 diabetes :

Vegetarian meals make sure that the person is less likely to have type 2 diabetes as compared to the ones taking the non-vegetarian meals. This is because of the reason that there is high consumption of whole grains, fruits, nuts, legumes and nuts, and less intake of unhealthy fats.

  • Reduced risk of getting infected by pathogens :

Again this is linked with the food chain. If anyone consumes the product(meat, etc.) from an animal that has been infected with a certain pathogen and the same pathogen can survive in the new host’s body, then the person will also get infected by the disease.
